On my 94 ranger 3.0l the check engine light comes and goes. I have heard of checking codes and was wondering how to do so or if I can even do this on my truck.
Nevermind, I found it and I did the test and I got a 33 and a 332, which is EGR did not open/respond during test or if memory code, did not open intermittantly - EVR or PFE. Now Im not sure where to go from here, like what needs to be fixed or replaced exc, so if anyone knows PLEASE HELP.
You should only get 2 or 3 digit codes, not both types, you might try running them again. If you don't have a manual with pinpoint tests see if your local library has them.
Im not doubting what you are saying but I am pretty sure I got those two numbers. I got 3 jumps and then another 3 jumps and then if I read the haynes manual rigth that is a 33 code and then after a pause I got a single jump which without going back to 0 pulsated 3 times then that happened again and the last time that it did it the needle only paulsated twice. Now i took that to be 332 so it is probabley me not reading the thing right so if you could help clear things up for me that would be cool.
Was this the key on engine off or key on engine running test? In my Ford information it lists 33 and 332 as the same code but it still does not make sense to get the two types. Let me know about the test type and I can email you pinpoint tests that should help determine the exact cause.
I hooked up the voltmeter the way that the Haynes manual said which was the same way that the site that you refered me to said, and then I ran the engine untill it reached the normal running temp and then I shut it off and waited for aprox. 10 seconds turned the key on but did not start the engine and then I used the jumper wire to start the test. And that is how I got the codes.
There are three types of codes, KOEO, KOER and continuous. The 33 is the KOEO and the 332 is the continuous, you should go to the link I posted and do the KOER test. You address the codes in this order, KOEO, KOER then continuous. I will email you the pinpoint tests later today so you can evaluate the problem for the 33.
Thanks for all of your help and for your e-mail I am busy threw the week with school and I use my truck to commute so I dont realy have time to work on it till the weekend so Ill try again this weekend and see what I come up with.
