Hey Guys, The D70 I had a few weaks back is gone. I need some of your alls thoughts. I am thinking about putting the 9" out of my 1/2 ton 4wheel in it.This is primarily a work truck that I want to have fun with. I will never carry a heavy load in back any thing substantial will be trailored. I am wishing for 35" tires & rear locker. Oh.... this is a 85 F-250 to refresh your memory. THOUGHTS PLEASE !?
Nines are tougher than people give them credit for. They can be locked and wheeled with 35's, unless your really nuts. My biggest question is what happened to your D70?
Yeah that 9" should hold up fine. I've seen guys run 9" with 44's and about 22" of lift (he said he hadn't broken anything YET, but he wasn't running lockers, just regeared the thing) But in reality you can run 35's and put out a decent amount of power before you start breaking things, and thats with some fairly hard wheeling to. Plus spare parts are cheap as about every other ford truck in the bone yards has a 9er sitting underneath.
It didnt look like our money situation was going to be good for a while & traded the D70. But I have an 86 4 wheel f-150 thats down & would like to make use of
what I can from it. The 351 is going to remain mostly stock I just recently put a
Truck Avenger carb seems to work pretty good.Has any one else noticed a flat spot while accelerating with these carbs?
yep the 9in will hold up with 35s without a problem, it's the same combo I am running with over 500hp, running a trans brake and 35in boggers, and know of another racer around here running 35x14.50 cut boggers behind a 514 with nitrous without breaking anything inthe rearend (or his D44 front end for that matter, I realize what we are doing is different than wheeling out in the rocks and trails but everytime these things move it's under full power, but I have also ran them with 36in tires for several years with not any more problems than having to put brakes on (normal maintaince) and one axle seal, and that truck was used to haul wood every year out of the mountains in WA, and was probably way over loaded everytime.
As far as the carb I have never personally ran one but do remember someone else mentioning that under part throttle accelleration, don't remember if they found a solution or not.
