A few eeks ago the fussible link blew that works the fuel shut off solineod. i just replaced it with a peice of wiring thinking that it had just crored over time. well yesterday it died again but thsi time smoke came out from the dash and the amp gauge pegged all the way negative. I unhooked the wire i had put in and found that to be drawing the excesive amps. I then unhooked the high idle solineod and it works. I was wondering does any one no if the fuel shut off electrical feed is the same feed the high idel draws off or did i just get lucky and this thing is going to die on me today when i drive it the 400 miles home. Thanks for any replays Rich
It cant be the same feed,or when the fast ilde shut off so would the fuel shut off.I think the fast idle, and the timing advance take their power from a sensor screwed into the engine, right next to the goose neck,t-stsat area.It kills the power when engine coolant reaches 118 degrees, shutting off fast idle and timing advance.
the fussible link was on the truck side of the wirng harness connector that goes to the engine. I was thinking the dsame as ya pnose that they coukldnt be the same but they almsot have to be or act that way. iam wondering if the switch wich i no were it is doesnt get its power from the fuel shut off and then feeds power thro that switch to the high idle. other thing is there is 2 red wires going to the fuel shut off one is power coming in were does the other wire go i cant tell casue of all the wire covering. but my theroy is that goes to the collant switch to feed the high idle maybe i dont no still cant figure out what shorted to make my truck conk out. its perfectly fine now but how long will that last?
The 2 wires on the shut down sol, is one of them comes back out of the sol and continues to the coolant switch, then to the cold advance and fast idle sols. So the shut off is not going through the temp sens, but it is feeding the power to the temp sens, which feeds the fast idle and timing advance. The power before the shut down also goes to,fuel heater, and the plug for the gp control unit.It comes from the ignition switch through a fuse link.
so i have short some were in that lovely mess. i just cant figure out why both times its conked when the motor is well warmed up. its def. not the fuel shut of shorting i wonder if the fuel heater is shorting since that is on all the time atleast by this wirng diagrm ford just gave me. i can see any broken burnt or rubbing wires. the high idel solined has the back cover coming off thats why i was asuming it was that messing up but maybe not i dont no. guess ill hope for the best. Thanks for the help tho.
mine cooked that fused link when the wire fron the diesel preheater shorted out on the edge of the valve cover pan,it did shut every thing down.make sure you wire in a fuse there(30 amp)
iam thinking thats what happend on mne since that connector kinda ssticks out. thanks for the size of fuse. iam going to go due that before i leave to go home today.
The fuel shutoff, engine temp switch (fast idle/timing advance) and GP controller all run of the same 20 GA Blue fusable link, just solder in the new link. Then find out what wire(s) are shorting out, look for worn wires. The fuel heater has its own 20GA Blue fusable link.
