just food for thought... couple years ago i was attempting to pull a loaded pete w/ a cat engine outta the sand in my driveway. had the biggest tractor, and tow rope on the place hooked up to him. well we starded workin the truck outta the sand. the truck would really pull down and when it was just on the brink of diein the driver would clutch it and the engine would reverse and run backwards. had to be and newbie driver cuz he did it 4 times and would just keep his foot in it when it started runnin backward which made it very difficult to pull a truck forward when its wanting to go backwards. thought id share.
thats funny, i had a 7.3l diesel backfire so bad through the intake that it blew the air filter housing to smithereens. so, yes, a diesel can backfire, ive seen it happen
I think mine has backfired at well, i was going to leave work, and the truck was cold and it was quite cold out. Went to crank and then BOOM, i look outside and black soot that was in my stacks was floating everywhere. Turned her off and she lite right up, idk what it was, i had the evo on extreme when i did it so maybe it had something to do with the timing.
