While looking for a power source for a CB and a trans temp guage, I discovered a harness w/covered ends behind the center dash plastic under the cubby. It is tagged "Customer Accessory, see Body Builder Book" or something to the like. I know the body builder book is a collection of good imformation for the folks who install and modify Ford Vehicles. Are the details of this accessory tap also in the wiring diagrams either by Mitchell or ALLDATA? My Ford dealer tells me there is no such tap, and there are no Conversion specialists/Body builders in my area. (2000 Ex, V-10)
That "tap" you found is most likely the receptacle for connecting an electric-brake controller for towing purposes. It allows the "customer-supplied" brake controller to send the proper signals to the electrical connection next to your hitch receiver.
Really? Ok, I'm stumped. Have you put a voltmeter to it to see what kind of juice is available, and if it's hot only when the key is in ACC and/or ON? I've got the factory wiring diagrams for a 2001 model, but don't feel like dragging them out this late at night.
I'm still doing more research on this but I've found that 4 of these wires are what Ford calls "Customer pass-thru circuits" and correspond to 4 wires near the brake booster. Their function is to enable the customer to use these wires instead of some "jury-rigged" entrance thru the firewall. Also, on the inside is a circuit for a PTO which is connected to the PCM. Again, more stuff to sort out, but I'll post when I have more.
