what speakers actually come stock in a 2005 F350 Lariat? I keep hearing replace your speakers. How do I know that I don't already have premium speakers?
I would very much like to put in some Infinities or Polks but I don't know if it will really make a difference.
Also I want to keep the HU. It has a 6 disc CD in it already, but I don't know if it has output jacks to add an external amp. How much power does the STOCK HU put out?
The stock speakers are fine, if that's what you like. But if you want to turn it up and have good quality distortion free sound then you have to upgrade to aftermarket. You can add an amp and keep your HU. You would need to splice in a low level converter to the speaker leads to make them RCA for the amp. But if you're going to do this, might as well replace the speakers while your at it. If it sounds good to you as is, then why mess with it.
I disagree with 93green, I have a 6 disc changer HU as well, I replaced all of the factory speaker and in my truck made a huge difference. Tightened up the lower end tremendously. paper vs. some type of polycarbonite or something like that. Any way I replaced mine with Boston Acoustics, bought all four off ebay for 120 buck. However if I was to do it again, I'd by seperates, that way I could put the tweeter above the rear seat, the seat still muffles the sound in the back, and the most you hear is the bass from the woofer. I made a box for the center seat, very similar to the stealth boxes from JL. It has two Rockford 8's ran by a smaller RF amp with high level inputs. I had a High to low converter, but it was picking up alot of engine noise, went to using the high level on the amp and it eliminated the noise.
Thanks Cangim,
Sounds like you made a significant improvement by changing the stock speakers. I'm curious about the two 8's in your center seat. Are you talking about the back seat or front. Is yours a crew cab? Got any pictures?
Mine is a crew cab, and I put the two 8's in the center seat up front, making the box wasn't all that difficult, you'd definately want a table saw to do it as well as a jig saw and Dremel or Rotory tool of some sort. I can take some pictures tomorrow as I really didn't document the project when I was doing it.
