drag

Hey I was just wondering if this would be smart I would like to take my 69 ford f250 and turn it in to a dragster-hot rod I thinking about taking out my 390 and putting a 582 in to it and then going with a deuce and trying to lighten my truck but my father says it's a dumb idea so I would like some out side opinions.

69 Dragster??

As you can see my youngest son wants to make his 69 into a hotrod. I was trying to explain that due to metal fatigue it wouldn't be a good idea. His truck could have 1000.00 thrown into it and the book here in Seattle books it from 6000 to 14000! I would drag race that! A nice street cruiser would be a better use of money in my estimation..

Well if your son is interested in american muscle he's on the right track! Much better than the average teenager who seems to think that ricers are fast. LOL

I'm running a 67/69 F250. I've got a hot stroked 428 in it. I realize I'm battling weight. but, the advantage of starting with a 3/4 ton, is that the drivetrain and suspension are less likely to give in to the extra power. I'm into the 14s, with a substantial fuel suplly issue. I think it will go 13s when I get the carb/fuel feed issue resolved. I'm also running a stock style torque converter and a cam that still allows me to use it as a truck with AC, PS and PB. I'd have no problem pulling my car and my bike to the track with tools, drag tires etc if I had a trailer. That's a cool thing to say at the track "Not only did my 4500lb truck run past your ricer, I could have pulled 2 of them to the track comfortably."

Hot rod trucks are

My '69 F100 shortbed with a 428Cj motor, 4 spd(car type-not truck creeper), 4.56 gears has run 13.4's. Fun street toy. Check my gallery for a few shots of it. It's 4080 lbs with me.

To each his own.

Good Luck, have fun!
