Rings

My 300 needs a head gasket and mains.
I figured while i had the pan and the head off i could do the rings to.
Should i?
Do i have to have it honed?
I plan on doing this in the truck so i cant really go to a machine shop so how do i hone them if i need to?

It has been a long time since I have done this, but you know to get to the rings you will have to pull the crank shaft out (thus everything on the front and back holding it in). If you change rings I would definately hone the cylinders and yes they have hones that you can put in a drill. This can be done in the truck but I hope you have a lift because you will have to get under it and do some work from the bottom. With it being the I6 I would be tempted to pull it out of the truck and put it on a stand to work with it. Just my 2 cents.

Can be tricky getting the piston and rings out of the top of the cylinder due to the wear ridge. Sometimes pushing the piston to the bottom of the cylinder and honing the wear ridge is enough to get it to come out
