I have a 71 F 250 with an AC unit. It says ford on the face of it but does that mean it is factory? I want to get it running again this spring. Would this be some thing most any shop could fix or will I need someone who has a history working on these older units. Or can these thing be resurected?????????
AC was a dealer installed option - and you could order the same unit with "Wards" logo through Montgomery Wards and install it yourself.
The only problem you have is that it uses R12 - but that is not a big deal. I have changed several R12 systems to R34 just by changing the fluid. (No new parts)
One thing- if the compressor is bad you might consider going with a newer rotary one -rotary compressors take much less power to pump the same volume.
Also, this is a popular swap meet item - you should be able to find any part you are missing at any old car swap meet.
