Hello everyone. I have a 78 F250 it has a dana 60 in the front, I am having a problem with a very bad shake. When it starts I have to let up on the gas pedal and slow down for it to stop. It happens more often when I have a load on the truck. Does anyone have any ideas on what can be causing this? Thank You!
Most likely a steering stabilizer on the front end will cure the problem. Before instaling I would do a thorough inspection of all front end parts including tires.
After you check front end parts, making sure front shocks are good. I would get alignment checked if caster is to high it will cause shimmy and with a load on truck, it would increase caster and make problem worse.

I know this sounds stupid, but I just recently purchased a 1979 4x4 for $200.00.
I had brand new wheels on it and it drove it around my farm for a day or two and noticed the same thing you were speaking of. Low and behold I cought what the problem was before it became catastrophic. The wheels that were installed needed dish lugnuts not shank nuts. The wheels were actually loose when the lug nuts were tight. believe it or not it only shhok at certain resonant frequency. This may not help however I thought I woulod put my 2 cents in!!!
I had a similar problem with my truck. I worked to be the tires. I didn't drive it much, and when I did it would shake at about 55 MPH. I had to drive it back and forth to work for a few days. The more I drove it the better it rode. Seems like the tires devolped a flat spot from sitting around, and after driving at high way speeds for three days the problem went away.
