1989 ford f150 4x4 with 4.9 and 5 spd...
After replaceing the slave cylinder, clutch and pressure plate...I'm having trouble bleeding the system....the book says when you open the bleeder fluid should come out...I left mine open for 2 hours and nothing....I can pump it to the floor while someone cracks the bleeder...some times i get air and fluid, sometimes it seems like all air...the pedal stays down and it needs to be pulled back up by hand...I am at a loss and at the end of my patients....I'm ready to burn it in my driveway at this point...Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Did you change the clutch master to? You should be able to pump the clutch pedal about 10 times holding the pedal to the floor have someone crack the bleeder lose. You'll probably have to do it a few times but you'll get a pedal eventually.Or you can track down a power bleeder from a local parts store.
No i did not replace master...but when the clutch went...I was at a traffic light and all of a sudden the truck lurched forward as if i had let the clutch out...the pedal stayed on the floor...I had a garage check it out and they determined it was the internal slave cylinder...So I flat bedded it home..replaced the slave...and figured I'd do the clutch too since it had 170k on them...
A pressure bleeder works the best, but you can try a vacum pump from the bleeder screw. Also remove the rubber from the master while you bleed it, that way you can add more fluid lessoning the chance of running out and getting air in the system and having to start all over again.
Thanks guys....It seems the garage that checked out my truck when it was towed in burned me on checking the truck out...the clutch master was bad...The clutch now is so sweet everything new but the line....Feels like a car clutch and not the truck I was used tooo...But with 170k on the stock clutch..I guess it was time...
