hi all!Recently my van started flooding BAD.It would barely run at all .No big surprise after seeing what it was doing.I pulled off the doghouse, breather etc and started it up while watching closely.Gas was everywhere, dripping out the side of the carb and the secondaries were pouring gas steady(at idle).I even changed my oil after noticing the oil level was up higher than it should have been. The oil reeked of gas.The carb is a holley 4 barrel,my engine a 351 high output.Right now I'm waiting for a carb kit I've ordered and when I get it rebuilt I'll let you know how it's running.(be awhile as I'm working out of town & won't get to it for a couple weeks)Any one ever had this happen to them?
bad float needle valves not stopping the gas is a fairly common carb issue - it is easy enough to fix with a rebuild kit- just take your time and make sure everything is nice and clean before putting the carb back together
I recently bought a very low mile 86 351W reman that caught on fire due to a leaky Holley 4bbl.
The engine damage was the carb, dizzie and a mess of wiring. The rest of the truck wasnt so lucky and was considered totaled.
BTW, the replacement was an Edelbrock 1406 and intake.
If u do the carb yourself, make sure the floats don't have gas in them. I've had them spring leaks, and they don't rise with the fuel level, so they don't put pressure on the needle, and seat. Just take them and shake them near your ear. If they're leaking you'll hear the gas sloshing around in them. Good luck
When I used to get leakers, I just took them out and heated them up to cook out all the gas and then reflowed the solder around the joint which is mostly where they start leaking. I've also come across some that were made of some kind of plastic material that deteriorated over time and would drop little pieces off that would jam up the needle and seat.
