4.2L engine swap

Hi,

I have a 99 F-150 with a 4.2L V6. I just got the transmission rebuilt. I have also read in the transmission spotters guide to stay away from the 4r70w transmission on the V6. I have been thinking that when my V6 dies, I want to swap it for V8. Will the 4.6L V8 or any other V8 fit on my transmission? I am just curious right now and it is just a thought.

Thanks,

Chris

I've yet to try this with a 4.2 but from what I understand the 4.2 and 3.8 are just about the same motor and they use the same motor mounts, bellhousing, etc... so that means the 5.0 will bolt to your transmission.

I think the 4.2 is just a stroked 3.8. So, wouldnt that make the 4.6 bolt up, as the 5.0 is not made anymore.

Just get a wrecked 4.6 truck and grab what you need from that to make things easier.

Everything will bolt into your truck, being they are the same under the hood, just optioned differently.

If you go 5.4L, the whole chassis harness goes as well.

the 4.6 v8 is a different bell pattern then the 3.8 and 5.0 just throwing that out there
