Trans Swapping Questions
Can anybody tell me if there is a difference between a truck transmission and a van transmission. One is 1985 Ford Econoline 150 with a 351Ho and the other is in a 1986 F150 with a 351w Both are C6 automatics.Thanks in advance

There is none, even car trannies will work, just that the linkage is backwards on the cars to the truck/vans. That problem is easily fixed by switching the linkage. Both need to be 2wd or 4wd, they do not swap that way, unless you tear them down and swap the tailshaft. So if the truck and van are both 2wd, they are the same.

Thanks for the fast reply.Now you mention tearing it down to swap the tailshaft? Is this a difficult process requiring special tools and skill or is this something I can handle fairly easily while I have it on the stand?Will it require any kits or other additional parts?Again,Thanks in advance.

it is only necessary if you are putting a 2wd into a 4wd or the other way around. You would be best served to give it a rebuild while you're there, as you have to take it all the way down to change the tailshaft. C6's are cheap to have redone, so it would beadviseable to take it to a trans shop, unless you want to give it a shot, but autos aren't quite like manuals, and have a few surprises for you.
