VEHICLE: 1996 Ford Windstar 3.8L (not a truck but also got a 1997 f-150 4.2L)
Will be taking a trip up to DC area for Thanksgiving. What things should I do to get our vehicle ready for the trip.
I Have changed the oil, had tranny fluid filter changed, checked radiator fluid will take extra oil and water just in case, will check tire air pressure, will check oil before we leave.
What else should be done or checked before leaving.
Just to let you know we will be leaving from P-town (portsmouth- just in case you don't know), VA heading toward washington,DC for Thanksgiving.
First off, you've got a great screen name! (My avatar is my actual VA license plate). I would pick up one of those snow brush / scrapers, and also ensure the windshield wipers are in decent shape. I used to make the trip from Va Beach to northeast Ohio each holiday season and learned the hard way about checking the wipers!
Have a safe trip.
Bob
just make sure you check all the fluids good. If the van is in good mechanical condition you should be just fine. Sounds like you'll be taking 64 to richmond then 95 north. Take 264 to go around, there will be a lot of traffic inside richmond. I used to drive a lot from harrisonburg to portsmouth and it's a 3 hr drive from here. I never checked anything well except for the gas, dumb I know but I've had my car 5 years and I change the oil quite often and all the other little things, I know it like the back of my hand and it has never let me down once, thats one thing I can't say about ford.
yes you are correct about the 295... I used to go down 64 hit 295 around richmond back to 64 then I hit 664 went through the tunnel and hit college drive. Also I forgot to mention to check your tires before you go.
