I would like some tips and info on changing my transfer case oil (and what oil it uses), my manual transmission oil and type, and the rear differential oil and type. Are they all the same oil? how do I drain them and how often should they be changed. I have 216,000 on my 97 f350 4x4. I know the clutch was replaced, and had the hydraulic oil switched to synthetic(DOT 5). I was getting a sticky clutch when I towed.
I bought it with 190,000 and have not done anything the transfer case, tranny or the differential. Thanks a lot!
both the trans and tcase take synthetic atf. 4 quarts in the trans about 3 in the tcase. make sure you can at least crack both drain and fill plugs loose before pulling them all the way, they can be stubborn. the trans drain is on the bottom at the back 3/8 square drive plug and fill is on the drivers side. same with tcase drivers side and the back. diffs can use the synthetic also cant remeber what wieght right now though. i like the amsoil in mine.
The transmission uses ATF, same with the transfer case. Personally I use synthetic. Redline is my brand of choice, there are lots of options: Redline, Amsoil, Mobil 1, Royal Purple. I think Redline and Mobil 1 are the best.
Rear axle: Redline Shockproof 75-140. It is also synthetic. It's so strong that it can be rated as a 75-250 weight oil.
