96 F250 7.3l ext cab. i just got the truck in june and has always been this way since i got it. i am an L1 tech and have not seen others do this same thing. only mine or course!
at a steady cruise 1200-2000rpm and in park or nuetral it vibrates the floors and has a noise also. i have found a tsb on a similar complaint, but i want to get some feedback before i take the trans out and spend the cake for a new converter. it still drives fine but is mostly just annoying.
if i do change it, is there any recomendations? banks or tci?
or just stock. i am planning on the banks stinger plus kit so far.
I'm not sure for the E40D transmission, but I know for the early few of the 4R100 on early '99, they had a double disc/plate (whatever you want to call it) TC, which makes a lot more noise than the newer single disc TCs. There have been TSB's out saying there is something wrong, but talking with the tranny guy at the Ford dealer, he said it wasn't a problem, just more parts in there that make more noise. Some people don't like the noise and opt to replace it.
how does one go about testing to see it the TC is failing or worn out, i had a question on here about a month ago and got a response about it could be my TC failing, so just wondering how to test it?
I wish i could tell you, mine made some growling, rough, rubbing noise for a few minutes before it went boom. Something let go inside of it, locked it up solid. The shop where i had it rebuilt ($2100 later) only recommended a ford torque convertor, they had too many problems with other ones.
I have a late 99 f250 psd, the t/c was rattling like hell when I bought in june this year. After a mis diagnose by the dealer I brought it to a trans shop ,and he replced it. Its a night and day difference soundwise ,no more of that metallic ringing sound .
