OK, I'm sure everyone in the world knows this except me, and I'm sure it's been addressed here but I can't find it. My truck has lots of plastic trim on the top of the bed, the tailgate handles, the door handles, the frame around the rear window, etc. When I wax the truck, I get a little wax on this textured plastic. Within a day, it looks like crap and I can't get it off the plastic. I've never bought Armor-All based on all the stories I've heard and I don't let the kids at the car wash use Armor-All on my truck. The last time they did, they got my gas and brake pedals all slimy and my steering wheel was too slick to hold on to.
So what is the solution to caring for plastic parts of my truck? If you give a specific brand name that I've never heard of before, at least tell me what ingredients it has/ doesn't have that makes it better than Armor-All. I'm not sure what it is in Armor-All that kills vinyl, but I sure don't want another brand of the same stuff. Thanks.
First you could use a wax that doesn't turn the black trim white (Like Klasse AIO and SG)
But to clean the wax residue off the trim I like to use 1Z Rubber/vinyl care(Tiefenpfleger) or Sonus Total Eclipse. I have been using the 1Z for over a year and ALL my plastic looks PERFECT!!
The Sonus I just tried today and like the looks of it but cant comment on the durability. I used to use Lexol "Vinylex" until I got tired of wiping black streaks from the paint because it ran everytime rained out.
The 1Z is made in Germany to combat "Automatic car washes". I can attest to its staying power plus it ability to clean wax residue off trim 1Z Vinyl/Rubber care Sonus Total Eclipse
Is there perhaps something that works that I might find among the 3000 items at the corner auto parts store? I'm not looking to order stuff online just to be able to wash my truck. I just wish to keep the vinyl looking half decent without using a product that will cause it to disintegrate in 5 years.

Thats why we use the quality stuff found only on the internet.
Good call on the 303 Protectant. But it is available all over the country in retail stores - try NAPAs, Ace Hardwares, if you are in Canada try Zellers. There is also an on-line retailer search on the 303 website - usually really up to date.
But if you do want to get it online - I just got an email notice from 303 that they have a bunch of Holiday specials going right now.
