Tranny I.d. Help
Ok I Have A 78 Ford F-100 1/2 Ton Short Bed...it Has A 4 Speed Trans....mated To A 302...course The Input Bearing Is Whining And The Rear Seal Is Leakin...ive Talked To Everyone I Know To Get This Unit Id'd..heres What I Know .. The Shift Pattern Is Goofy

4th Which Im Assuming Is O.d....is So High Geard I Never Use It...and I Also Think <was Told By An Old-timer> That It Has A 270 Rear End Gear...i Pressure Washed The Crap Out Of It And Cannot Find Numbers.....any Hel On Where To Find The #'s And Id This Thing..im Gonna Put A Pretty Built 347 In It This Spring..i Goit To Know It This Gearbox Is Gonna Handle The Increades H.p....................sorry Fer The Dumb Questions..im A Recent Ford Convert..ex-that Other Brand..guy..i Jus Dunno..i Didnt Install The 4spd..

There were a couple four speeds that were installed in those trucks. The ones with overdrive, and the ones with a granny gear and no overdrive.
The granny low boxes are virtually indestructible, and it will be either an NP435 or a T18.
The 4 speed overdrives I don't know as much about, expect they're not nearly as strong.
Pics would help, and if you could tell whether it has a granny low gear or not.
