Broken wire at the brake light switch? It's located near the brake pedal, might be to close or to far away, could be a broken wire, could be just about anything in between.

Usually it's a faulty switch or a problem with the brakes that allows the pedal to drop down when not in use. Next time you notice the lights are on, look at the brake pedal, notice if the pedal has dropped, allowing the switch to come one...

I dont know if your brakes are set up the same as mine but my brake light was coming on on my 77 f-250 and I pulled the master cylinder of off the vacuum booster and there is a rod that sticks out of the front of the vacuum booster that pushes on the master cylinder, the front of the rod has a threaded nub on it and I screwed that nub out a couple of turns and it cured my problem.

Are the light bulbs popping, or are the brake lights flickering? If the bulbs are popping, is the fuse right? If theyre flickering the cause has probobally been pointed out above. My lights flickered, and were spuratic, ended up the Mag the highway department lays down was eating away at some exposed connections under the truck. But id rather replace wiring than have someone run into me.
