Question about Computer

Hello to everyone!!

As some of you may remember. Awhile back, I posted a question about a buddy's 98 F150 with the 4.6 L stalling rhandomly.

Well, we have had it into various shops around town, and have still to this point in time have not found a definite solution to the problem. Their have been a few twists and turns in the diagnosis though.

He is now saying that he is losing all of the gages in the instrament cluster on the dash. They are now rhandomly going in and out. And, their are now other electrical problems with the truck.

We are thinking that the computer may be going bad? Is this an issue with the year of truck he has? Are we off base? How much would a used computer cost him?

He is getting to the point, that he is tired of putting money into the truck, and wants to get it fixed.

If anyone has any ideas, they are greatly apreciated!!

Thanks in advance!

Mark

Wacky computer?

It might actually be a weak battery. If the guages move extreme right and then back after a start or no start the battery is weak. Might need water or a new battery. JMHO.

Sounds like it could be a faulty ignition switch.

Hello to all,

Shortly after I wrote the first post in this thread, he installed a computer out of another truck. He has been driving his Ford now for a little over a month, and to this date, has had absolutely no stalling from it at all! He has been very happy with it. Overall the truck seems to run better than it ever has in the past! Unfortunately it has not helped the gas milage any though! He has sort of decided to live with it! After all, Trucks are not rice burners! But, it would be nice if they were!

Thank you to all on this forum who have given us sugestions! They are very much apreciated!!
