Another Gear Question

I have a 94 f150, 5.0, e40d, 8.8, ttb44, and I am running 35"mtrs, with 6" of lift. the guy at the shop recomended 4.10s. it currently has 3.55s and even with the stock tires it didnt tow my boat (approx 3500lbs) that great, it need more on the bottom for hills and at take off. speed on the freeway isnt a huge factor, the fastest i ever go is about 70mph, (not towing), fuel economy is a little important, but if you lift a truck and throw big meats under it, what do you expect. anyone have a suggestion? I dont think 4.10s are low enough or gunna give me bang for the buck.

I agree with you. 4.10's are a little tall for a 302 and 35" tires. I would go with 4.56's instead, or even 4.88's, since you're towing, have overdrive, and don't mind driving a little slower on the highway. I run 4.56's in my F350 used for towing, with 33" tires and no overdrive (C6 trans). I go a little slower on the highway with the lower gears (originally had 3.55's) but the power increase is well worth the speed decrease. With overdrive, I could have the best of both worlds .

I have a spreadsheet at home that you might find useful. You plug in your overdrive ratio and tire size, and you can see how many RPMs you'll be turning at various speeds. PM me and I'll e-mail it to you.
