Can anybody offer up the info I need on my 66 F750???? I just purchased this truck on Ebay, item# 7933384297 First will smaller F-series (F100-F250)body panels of the same vintage fit my 66 F750? Next up is if anybody has ever seen a 1966 F750 Crew cab.Mine is currently a regular cab but if I can find the parts I plan on converting it to a crew cab.Did they make it in a Crew cab? Finally this truck has a 2 speed rear and according to the listing it has an air shift transmission?? I've been raised on Ford F series 250 mainly highboys and super cab camper specials and swapping engines and trannys on Fords since I was 8 years old(with adults of course!!) but never anything bigger than an F350 so I have never heard of an air shift before and when I tow this truck home(400miles) I need to know what gear the rear 2 speed should be in and what if anything do I need to do to protect the trans and running gear from damage.Any info would be helpful. Thanks.
You stole that truck. If it had been closer to NC, I was going to bid on it, but I did not feel like traveling that far to pick it up. Congratulations on a great purchase.
I don't know much about these either, but here is my best guess:
I think that the body panels will fit, except for the fenders. I also guess the seller is wrong about the transmission. I think he was still thinking about the air brakes, but I don't know, just my guess.
My advice is easy, just remove the drive shaft and don't worry about it.
I have seen pics of crew cab F-450 and ups, but they were all made after the fact by outside companies as far as I know. That would be one sweet crew! Good luck, hope you have something big to tow that chunck of iron home with!!!
I have a 64 F-750 dump truck with 391, 5 speed manual trans, and 2 speed rear axle, see my gallery. I have never heard of an air shift transmission, but I have done allot of work on my truck, and will help with info if I can.
I agree with dropping the driveshaft.
As far as the rear axle, mine shifts via an electric motor with a switch on the shifter - up to shift into high. The shift motor is on the front left of the axle, on top of a small gear box. If you take the cover off the box, you will see a drive screw and a shift fork, the axle is in high when the fork is down. I have manually shifted mine by turning the screw manually before getting a new shift motor, which by the way, was only $27.00. When you have all this working right, you can shift it on the roll.
Good deal, hope the seller doesn't try to back out.
Thanks for the info and yes I really did get it for $21.00!!! I still have to pick it up but I'm in the process of making arrangements now.No the seller has been very helpful and has not tried to back out. Please keep the info coming and if somebody out there thinks they can help me getting this thing home I would be glad to hear it.Anybody from Ohio,Pa or Indiana that has any ideas on delivery lets hear it.I have it pretty much worked out but always willing to listen to better ideas. Thanks again!!
