Hi. Which bulb do I use for my new Carbon Fiber Taillights I bought. The Sylvania website says to use 3157 for the brake, 3156 for the backup and turn signal. The problem is with the 3156 for the turn signal. The 3156 is clear and the turn signal part on the taillight is clear. I need amber. What should I use?
3156 is just a size, you should be able to go into a parts store and buy an equivalent sized amber bulb. I did a search for 3156 +amber and most places just listed an amber colored 3156 size bulb.
I searched around like Bart did (thank you Bart) and found many colors of bulbs. Is it illegal to use a blue bulb as a turn signal light? Must they be amber?
One other thing. The brake light lens is red. Should I use a clear bulb or a red one?
Thanks!

If you really wish to disregard the law and start experimenting with various brake light colors, I'm certain that a friendly officer of the law will be happy to clarify any questions you may have regarding which colors are legal.
Here's a hint: The light colors on every other vehicle on the road are dictated by law. Use the same colors or pay the price for being 'unique'. This isn't an optional kinda thing.
For the brake light, use a clear bulb. A red bulb won't be as bright through the red lens.
Most states typically stipulate either red or amber rear turn signals. Only in Europe are amber turn signals REQUIRED. I prefer the amber lights myself as they're easier to make out against red brake lamps, and amber stands out better in adverse weather as well. I wish that the USDOT would just revise its lighting standards (which are 30+ years old) and require amber turn signals here. It wouldn't cost most manufacturers anything to implement it, as many US market cars are sold overseas (or have overseas equivialents) and come with amber turn signals. Sorry for getting side tracked, its just a peeve of mine.
Thanks guys/gals for the great information. After all the great suggestions I ended up buying silver/chrome amber bulbs for my front turn signals (clear lenses) and for the rear clear turn signals. (I may end up getting the Sylvania SilverStar bulbs for the front if I can come up with a good reason [Santa?] to buy them for $20+. Plus, they would probably go good with my Sylvania SilverStar bulb Crystal Altezza Headlights.) Thanks again for all the fantastic info!
