Squeaky Speedo in '94 2X4

Does anyone know what I have to do to cure a squeaky speedometer? It has a 2.3L engine and 5-speed trans. The little purple play-truck has 176K miles on it & still runs GREAT, but the speedometer squeaks and shows a jerky needle - especially when its cold outside.

Squeaky Speedo in '94 2X4

Hey Guys,
I know someone must of had this happen to their Ranger.
Help me out here, please.

Is a '94 (4-cyl, 5-spd) equipped with a mechanical speedometer cable or is it an electronic wire-fed type?

Is there something somewhere I can lubricate or do I need to replace the cable?

You could try spraying penitrating oil in the speedo cable. You would have to do it from the speedo head side though. That means taking out the instrument cluster out.

1) ....so a '94 DOES have a cable driven speedo?

2) Is it a big deal to pull the instrument cluster out to get to the speedo cable?

3) Is it a big job to replace the cable instead of lubing the old one?

4) Any idea as to how long spraying WD-40 in at the top end would keep the squeaks away?
