There is a motor on ebay.It says that its a new 429,never been used. But the #s on it are confusing. The valve cover label# is e9ae and the engine# is d9te-ab.Did they make 429 truck engines that late or is this a 460.Ebay#7934103141
Yes they made the 429 truck engine late enough that I have even seen them fuel injected I believe the latest I seen was in a 92 dump truck like a F700 if I remember correctly. haven't looked at that auction yet but that is definatly a possibility.
So are these engines any good for a build up.Or would there be to much involved.Just wondering what kind of numbers an engine like this would put out.And how hard it would be to get perf parts for.
well they have advantages, and disadvantages but not sure I would pay the price ot buy a new one like htat auction, the advantages are that the crank is forged steel instead of cast Iron, and that is actually about it's only advantage, and even at that I believe you have to have the crank snout turned down to passenger car size as it's bigger for the huge harmonic balancer used on trucks. the heads, and block are the same as any 460 in the same year, and not perticularily noted for performance, the cam is junk, and they have dish pistons for low compression, but should have good con rods (I believe they use a rod that is supposed to be the same as the old scj rods from the early 70s)
put on some better pistons for compression, a good cam, and have bigger valves put into the heads (although with the valve cover label on that one bieng E9 it might have fi heads and would need to be changed unless you wanted fuel injection), and have the heads ported you could get a very strong 450-500 hp engine with the right combo of intake, and cam (or more if you went really crazy) but for me I would just find on in a medium duty ford truck to start with to get the forged crank.
