I own a 1990 F-150 4X4 with the 4.9 inline 6, long bed, and manual trans with 31 inch BFG All-terains. I have been getting about 12 mpg with this set-up and it sucks with the price of gas these days. I was thinking about changing the plug wires and adding a Mallory HyFire IV Digital CD Ignitions and hope that the tripple spark will give me a better burn. Will this help me in the mpg area?

Well, it won't hurt, but there's no way to say how much it will help. If you're going to change the plug wires, you might as well do the plugs, cap & rotor at the same time. Other common causes for bad mileage are plugged exhaust systems and bad O2 sensors.
