Jacobs Electronics products?

I have a ’96 Mazda B3000 (3L Ford Ranger with Mazda logo) and I’m considering buying the Jacobs DIS (Distributorless Ignition System) Energy Pak & spark plug wires. Has anyone purchased one of Jacobs Electronics products before and what results did you achieve? I have already installed a K & N filter charger and Flowmaster. I want to squeeze every bit of horsepower out of that truck as possible with bolt on technology. If anyone has a better ignition system suggestion I’m all ears.

Cool...same truck as me except I got a 2.3L and same question as me. Hehe. But I asked this in the Aftermarket Parts forum and here is the link to it so you can see what everyone said.

It seems that most people prefer MSD over the Jacobs. And after some research I think MSD would be a much better route to go too. Another thing to consider is the cost. With Jacobs, for an entire setup for your truck you could be pushing $600 up to $1,000 easily depending on what all you get and where from. Where with MSD, the prices I've seen is half that at least in most places. As far as gains, I've heard and read that there is some horse power gains and gas milage gains too, but I think that also depends on your driving style. As far as the horse power gains, I'm not sure if it'll be a noticable difference but I'm sure it'll be there.

As far as other bolt on items, how about headers, after market mass air flow sensor, throttle body spacer, free flow catalytic converter, computer chip, lighter pulleys, aluminum fly wheel, etc.

For some more horse power and torque gains ya better prepare to start ripping apart the engine and putting in like after market cam shaft, rockers, valves, etc. I know I'm about to start doing the same thing with my truck.

Whats your opinion on the flowmaster on your truck? Much actual improvement or just sound cool?

Anyways hope this helps you out. Goodluck.

James

I have used both Jacobs and MSD and prefer the MSD. Have used it on many different set ups also. It just works better. All the time, every time.
Also for general information to all. The factory ign setups are designed for up to 10% missfire right from the factory because of the cost only. The extra milage and power from all aftermarket ign come from eliminateing that condition so you get 100% fireing all the time. The more efficient the eng to begin with the less the improvement. but almost always is some. KB
