I purchased an Oilguard bypass system for my 6.0 a few weeks ago. I mounted the filter on the frame rail opposite the HFCM. The 10' hose supplied was not long enough for both supply and return. I spoke with a gentleman at Oilguard (forgot his name) and mentioned I heard of his product at FTE. He said he would gladly send another 10' length, which arrived today. The product seems of high quality and it's nice to deal with Oilguard customer service.
I spoke with them just tonight as I ordered my bypass for my new 6.0 and was pretty impressed as well. I did request extra hose totaling 15' so hopefully I have enough. Mark was helpful and also gave me the FTE member discount as well. I'm pretty excited and looking forward to doing business with them in the future. Great prices on full flow filters!
An oil bypass system takes a small amount(5-10%) of the pressurized oil and sends it through a finer filter to catch the "small stuff" that the regular oil filter misses. It can extend oil changes or just give you a piece of mind.
When using the Oilguard bypass filter do you also use the full flow filter as well? I read one page that the guy did but I also read people that do not.
with the oilguard system, you do still use a regular full flow filter. In theory, (my own mental process) not using a full flow would be the death of the engine as the bypass only filters 10-15% of the total flow, filterless would mean the other 85% including any metal shavings & contaminents, would simply get pumped through the engine.
I am very happy with the Oilguard System and it looks really sharp with the red aluminum filter & fill caps. One thing I really like about this system in comparison to others I've seen, the oil return goes in through the fill tube instead of the oil drain plug. A lot of risk in my book to have an oil hose hanging that low to the ground. On mine, I mounted the filter on the passenger side outside the frame rail to the engine crossmember bolts that were sticking out, simply removed the nuts, drilled the mounting bracket holes a little bigger and wallah! I ordered 7' of extra hose and it all came out perfectly. I have another 4700 miles before the next analysis so I cant offer mutch there, hmmmm.. maybe I should go for a ride. lol
why cant someone just make a replacement filter for the stock location that catches the "smaller stuff" as said above instead of adding an expensive auxilary unit?
