If you are looking for cast iron stock manifolds, I think I have seen them in the LMC catalog. If you are wondering about headers, I have Hedmans on my '72 with 390. Dont remember what the number is for them tho'.
no,i mean like shorty headers, where i dont have to take out my y pipe, cause it sucked taken it out and putting it in,and i like the single exhaust sound
I havent seen them yet in all the catalogs I get, but thats not to say they'
re not out there. Some day when my Heddies burn out, I would like to find an upgrade to them. something coated maybe.
You're not going to find anything aftermarket that is that crappy. The factory manifolds are so compact and rediculous. I recently bought a set of Dynomax headers from summit for like $240. They are ceramic coated, and I love them. No clearance issues at all, and I did the complete dual exhaust system myself in a weekend. Cake Ceramic coating is awesome!
Well Stop the Bus here!! Your not! going to find a Header that will bolt directly up to a set of headers.. Headers are for performance and a sigle exhaust is not!!
So if you want to go to say Heddman header's (35 years) and have not leaked once!!
You'll have too take to your muffler shop and have them Fab a new Y pipe.. But then your just defeating the purpose for the headers?
I strongly suggest if you go to a header set up...you also go with dual 2 1/2" Exhaust!
Using a single Exhaust with headers is like is like trying to flow 1000cfm thru a McDonalds straw!!

orich, dude, thats down right disrespectful...joegeoghegan317,see thats my idea,is i can make a new y-pipe out of like 3inch pipe, and try to find shorty headers so i dont have to fab anything up.....plus in my opinion i dont want dual exhaust i wanna do stuff my own way and not the normal way that every one else does....my truck is going to the exact oppisite from every one, maybe not every one,but different from wut ppl think of doin with these trucks....so thats my opinion
You didn't say that in your other post. You said (i like the single exhaust sound) When you say it this way, I did and I'm sure everyone else thought the same just by cheching out the other post. You got too think in your mine
eye. of what your asking. what kind of a market there would be for them.A set of headers with a stock size callector pipe and how tight those would have to bend. just to be a stock cast iron exh manifolds as a R&R SETUP .
Now if you just wanted shorties thats another bus ride there guy.If you want to (your best bet would be trying car shortie.) and fab them to work. Check out sanders headers for FE but you didn't even post your engine size.. I'm not trying to pick on you.But gee see how long your post is getting and still know one knows what engine you have..
Single exhaust is fine, as long as the system is mandrel bent. This means that instead of clamping the pipe down and bending it with a hammer, the tech pulls a mandrel through it, keeping the inner diameter of the pipe the same throughout. With a single exhaust instead of a dual setup, you'll want about a 1/4"-1/2" bigger piping to maintain low backpressure. That doesn't mean that you need to run 3" exhaust, though... 02 Camaros run 13's out the door, are equipped with Y-pipes, and have I think a 2-5/8" exhaust. You'll only want to run 3" or larger if you are flowing a ton of air, say if you have a supercharger or something.
Oh, yeah, and you'll really want to get some headers, too. FE manifolds are insanely small and restrictive, switching to a good set of headers (from Hedman, Dynomax, or someone like that) will give you a noticeable increase in torque. Personally I'd go for some full-length models to increase low-end torque...
I currently run single mandrel bent (actually, fabricated/welded bends) 3" exhaust out past the passengers side rear wheel well.
I will be going full lenght headers into 3" Y, and keeping the rest as is.
As mentioned above, go full length or leave the stocker logs on there.
Short primary headers will make more hp up in the rev's, but will do nothing for your tq... will actually decrease low end tq. Waste of money in my opinion.
I once was told for single exhaust, you want to run 1"dia per 100hp... Thoughts?
And, isn't Schebby runny single 3" exhaust on the new Trucks?
CleanLX, 1"/100hp sounds like a good ballpark figure, but I'd stay away from anything above 3", as you'll get very little backpressure out of a system like that, and consequently lose some torque. And yes, stay away from the shorty headers, as they're tuned to increase power in the 4000+ rpm range. How much time do you spend at 5000 rpm?
As far as whether to get a single or dual system, well, in terms of flow it doesn't matter. As long as the system is mandrel bent, start with 2 1/2" or 2 3/4" from the collector(where the header tubes come together) and once you get to the Y-pipe move to 3" or so.
