2003 Expy and RUST???

Anyone else have rust developing on their '03s just above the pull handle for the rear hatch? It looks like it starts behind the handle and is now bubbling up an inch above it. Kind of strange when the truck is garaged at home and at work...would that be covered under the 3/36?

Probably not - I think it has to be rust "through". Wouldn't hurt to let the dealer know so it's on your record.

It should be covered under the 3/36K. The rust through is the longer (5 or 6 year) corrosion warranty.

My friend *had* a 2003 mustang that had very bad rust all under body. This past august he took it for service and they said we can't take some nuts off because of the rust ( it has 7000 miles.. ) The dealer refused to do anything about it so he filed a complaint and went before the arbitration board and won! they concluded it had serious rust damage and they just bought it back!

I would check completely under the entire truck, some had said it may have been bad batch of metals etc.

good luck!

Do you actually see rust. The reason I ask is that the hatch is non-metalic, a maganet does not stick to it. I think you may have a paint problem, maybe from contamination before paint. Remember the E-coat problems GM and Dodge had in the early 90's? When the problem started it looked a lot like bubble rust.

The rear door as a whole is aluminum. The trim piece I think he's talking about is plastic.

The hood is aluminum also as well as alot of the suspension parts underneath.

All good points, it looks like bubbling rust under paint, but I have note actually seen rust. My service advisor is going to look at it on Monday.
