Anybody Have C7ae-a Heads? Good Or Bad? 390 Or 428?
IF ANYONE OWNES A PAIR OF THESE HEADS, PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOUR OPINION IS. I WOULD BUY NEW DIFFERENT PAIR OR KEEP THESE, BUT NOT SURE. LOOKING FOR ATLEAST 425+ HP FROM 1966 MERCURY 390 FOR MY 76 F-250 4x4. THANKS!!!!!
I have one. You have to get more than heads/head work to get 425+ hp but it can be done with these heads.
Oh, and Dude, take the "caps lock" off. Nobody likes to be yelled at.
I have a set of C7AE-A's that I ported and polished the chambers. Look in my gallery. However, they're on my 390 that I put in the truck yesterday and they're not for sale.
You can get 425hp, but as was said, it'll be part of a total engine performance build, not just heads.
You can make 425+ horse from any set of fe heads out there with exception of FT stuff. C7AE-A's are probably pretty close to all the other early big port heads. They'll make big power, just might not be as efficient at doing it as the later smaller port heads with a good port job.

C7AE's are small port "velocity" heads. They are almost identical to the later C8AE and D2TE heads. The ports are much smaller in diameter than the C1's C3's C4's and C5's. C6 was the transition year for FE heads.
C7's can be made to run with some mild port and polish and CJ valves. I ran a set for years in my 73 250 4x4. They are good heads for a 400-450hp FE. If you want more than that you really should look at the big port heads or aftermarket.

Thanks Paul For Replying! I Havent Been Able To Find A Web Site With Any Info. It Helps To Know If Someone Else Knows What Im Asking. I Was Wondering If Thier Is Anything Special About The Heads Or If Other 390's Had Them And Also What Other Engines Had Them? Thanks Again For The Feed Back!
67 390 heads
Same casting as a 390GT head. Only difference between a std. head and GT heads were the exhaust bolt pattern. GT heads had 14 bolts where a regular 390 had 8 bolts.
Same heads that came on a 67 GT500 Shelby.

How do you have a diameter on an rectangle shaped ports? Diameter work with round or oval ports.
I still have to agree that after much reading a 425 hp FE isnt a difficult task with any of the heads if the rest of the engine is complimentary. AND DAMN!! I cant wait to see how the C4's breath!
