Hey ya'll. This may seem kind of silly :+ , but I cannot afford a new engine to throw in it yet, and I have a few parts from other projects lying around. As of now, I'm thinking of throwing a turbocharger on my 2.9L Ranger. If anyone has any information regarding whether or not this will blow up my engine , drop me a line. Thanks a bunch.

I have heard that both the heads and the head gaskets on the 2.9 aren't particularly strong, and might not take well to turbocharging.
Try removing the muffler and replacing it with a highflow one (or a cheap cherry bomb) and then just exiting the exhaust out the side, getting rid of all the convaluted stuff over the axle. Also take out the factory airbox and put a conical K&N in it's place. I have a buddy that did this and it made a tremendous difference.
Well...my honest opinion, if you got a turbo charger...probably spend so much that you could have paid off at least half the new engine already. But I would say get a cold air intake for starters, and headers, and performance cat and muffler. Then some ignition stuff like MSD or Jacobs or whatever ya want. That would be a good bolt on start. Then for pricier stuff could have your engine rebuilt or do it yourself if know what you're doing. But go with new cam, rockers, etc, crank, aluminum head (ported), lighter pulleys, aluminum flywheel, electric fan, bored out cylinders, bigger pistons, new reworked rods, and so forth. The list goes on forever but so does the price tag. So for the most part I'd just stick with doing cheap bolt on items and save up for buying a new engine if thats what you ultimately want. Goodluck.
