How well wil an X-pipe fit under any given truck? Particularly an older one? Curious as to how to connect one up and where everything go in a system using this part.
Hey Brent, your 77 might be different vs my 68 underneath. I came off my headers straight back and added a 45 degree bend right after the transmission cross member. Both pipes turned in and meet the X- crossover which was placed just behind the trans U-joint and under the driveshaft. I have room inside the frame rails as the saddle tanks are on the outside. I have photos but can't get them posted, will try later. Carl.....o&o>........
How difficult was this to do? When I bought my current exhuast setup, I just used what was in the kit, but Im curious as to how much modification would be required to make it work. Seems like every part I buy requires some modification, like the hedman hedders. Does the X-Pipe sound any better? I have heard they increase power a bit.
Brent, i have Thorley headers. The collectors, they both were aiming between 6 and 8 degrees toward the trans. I removed the extensions from their flanges and made offsets with angle corrections. My exhaust system including the X cross is hand made all with mandrel tubing. 2 1/2" from the headers to the exit of the mufflers. After the mufflers the pipe cones out to 3", over the axle then cones out to 4 1/2" to the 4 1/2" angle cut tips. All mounts and brackets hand made. HPC coated the headers in and out back to the X cross. I had to install a baffle system to fit inside the tips, i was setting off car alarms and the cops. This system with the X crossover gave me 3 to 3 1/2 inches more manifold vacuum, at 1,200 in town and at 2,550 at 70 mph. The F/A gauge flutters now because the vacuum pulse in the exhaust. The old system before was 2 1/4" duel exhaust. I must have 100 hours involved in this project. The engine is a 410, CJ cam, 427 LR heads, Performer w/670 Holley.
