Trailers

I was wondering if anybody knew if i could get a trailer big enough to fit 2 6x6s they weigh 10,000 pounds each. i curently use the same trailer i have to haul my hibrid with to haul them back to my house. its getting really old to make several trips to pick them up so i would like to get two at a time if i could. Seeing as how i know nothing about trailers any help would be very appriciated. i have a fifth wheel style hitch in the back of a 99 F250 superduty towing package.

Thanks

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if they weigh 10,000 lbs each, not gonna happen with the truck you have. You'd be 10,000 or more lbs over the max tow rating of even a diesel F350 dually and the hitch weight would probably even put a dually over its GVWR (assuming a gooseneck trailer).

If you want to tow that much weight, you need to look at a much bigger truck. An F650 would probably tow it.

As for the trailer, yes there are heavy duty construction equipment trailers that can haul that much weight. I don't have any web links for manufacturers for you to visit, but I'm sure once you get a hold of a truck big enough to tow it, you'll find a trailer too.

Good luck on your search for a bigger truck .

My thoughts exactly, no 250 can begin to safely haul 20,000 of cargo plus the trailer that can handle them. It would end up being almost if not to the level of most flatbed semi tractors running the roads to handle that much weight. You need a small semi tractor to run that much almost.

Thanks for the help. I did make a mistake the weight was 10,000 total but if im understanding what you are saying correctly this is still over the max. i guess ill have to stick with pulling one around at a time or pay somebody with a tractor trailer to get them for me.
you help is appriciated

you might not want to hear this but o think if you went to a dulie(SP) with a 5th wheel hauler a long ramp type i should be in the weight class .but two things one you need to upgrade your driver's license to a class b andtwo you would have to get a different truck

i forgot why a class b?

truck 7,000 lbs
trailer say 3,000 lbs
cargo (other toys) 10,000
total 20,000
which is over weight for a class d

Ok, this new information changes everything, possibly. If the weight of the two 6x6's is 10,000 lbs for both of them, you may be able to pull them both on the same trailer if the trailer itself isn't too heavy, say 3000 lbs or less. But, we need more information about your truck. What engine and axle ratio are in your truck? What cab type do you have and is it 2wd or 4wd? Also, it is a good idea to take these 6x6's to a truck scale and weigh them, to find out for sure how much they actually weigh, rather than rely on a guess that may be way off...

Here are weight ratings for '99 F250's:
GVWR: 8800 lbs.
RearGrossAxleWeightRating: 6084 lbs (if I remember correctly).
GCWR w/ diesel engine: 20,000 lbs.
GCWR w/ V10 & 4.30 axle: 20,000 lbs.
GCWR w/ V10 & 3.73 axle: 16,500 - 17,000 lbs.
GCWR w/ 5.4L & 4.10 axle: 15,000 lbs.
GCWR w/ 5.4L & 3.73 axle: 13,500 lbs.

If you have the 5.4L V8, you're outta luck, but if you have the diesel or V10 and a trailer that's not too heavy, you might be in business . Hitch weight might be the deciding factor, since F250's are a little skinny on GVWR and RGAWR.

Many hotshot drivers are pulling 25k-30k with their 1 ton pickups...

getting a gooseneck with dual wheels, hydraulic brakes, tandem axles that is properly balanced for the load, it is no problem whatsoever

Find a hotshot outfit, talk to the drivers of the one ton trucks, they will tell you what you need

WOW - 15 tons on tandem axles behind a 1-ton pickup; sounds really safe to me!!!

It doesn't sound safe to me either, and anyone towing for profit has to stop at weight stations. I doubt they tow overweight knowing they will be fined, not to mention that it's not safe for the driver or others on the road.

You're also digging up some pretty old threads.
