My son was pulling a very heavy trailer the other day and the transmission is now trashed. Reverse now stalls the engine. The OD light was blinking for a long time before this happened and we ignored it. Shouldn't have, I guess.
The truck is a 95 PSD with the E4OD tranny. It has 270k miles on it.
Does anyone know of a place to buy a cheap used tranny in the central Texas area? The web searches I have done only turn up very expensive rebuilt ones. The cheapest used one I have found is $750.
i know San Antonio is a long way from Waco, but there is a shop here in town i take my tranny problems to and they always give me a good deal and will work on it till its right. plus a 1 year warrenty on parts and labor its A+ Transmission, 210-675-6718. they might even recomend someone closer to you if you can't bring it down here.
San Antonio isn't that bad, about 2 1/2 hours away.
We have a local shop that quoted $1300-1500 but we just don't have that laying around right now. I was really hoping for a cheaper used one that would run for a while.
I found a torque converter locally for about $210 and a master rebuild kit on the net for about $180. How hard are these to rebuild? I've never been inside a transmission.

1500 isn't too bad a deal if they are worth it. but i hear ya about not havin that much laying around. i know if i did it sure wouldn't be sittin there for long. can't help ya with rebuilding it yourself, but from what i hear, the E4OD is a bear to deal with
If you've never touched one, leave it to the pros unless your very confident in your abilities. The prices seem about right. The last one our company did cost $1475. I may know someone how wants to part out a 94' that has a rebuilt tranny in it. I'll talk to him tomorrow and let you know. He's in San Antonio too.
