Question Not really mechanically educated!

I purchased a used 2003 Ranger Edge with 36K miles from a local dealer. The engine is a 3.0L. After 250 miles the engine developed a knock. It sounded like a rod and I took it back to the dealer. The master tech said yes it was a rod.
I called today and was told the #2Rod was thrown. They are planning to put a Crank Kit, Oil Pump Bearing kit as part of the rebuild. It is under the "Certified Warranty" program.

Is this normal procedure or ???

If these parts are worn or in need of replacing it makes more sense for them to do it while the engine is apart. Besides...if it isn't costing you anything what can it hurt.

Sounds like the previous owner beat the snot out of the truck and dumped it just as the warranty was about to expire. I'm running into a similar situation with my '02 F150, but not as severe. At least my engine hasn't grenaded (yet), just some tranny noises. Good luck with your truck.
