Dang, I was wondering why the socket boxes in the Sears warehouse were pink and had mirrors inside the top cover. The newly designed cardboard bands around the boxes will make nice napkin rings.

Are you sure that it is K-mart buying Sears. A few months ago on one of the local TV channels here, they said that Sears was buying the old buildings that K-mart does not have open anymore. I may have heard it wrong, but I don't think so. It would not be the first time I was wrong.

As to stock levels, it mostly depends on the store manager.

Lots of chain stores here on Long Island, Home Depot included, have many examples of certain stores being poorly-stocked (with lots of empty spots on the shelves). Go to the next store, exact same chain, 10 miles down the road, and you'll be sure to find everything you need everytime.

I don't know if it's really any one person's fault really, it could be one of those ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) computer applications gone wild telling people what to do. Really...

As to Kmart buying Sears, there goes the neighborhood! There's something about Sears that is different from every other store - I'm afraid that's going to go away now... what other chain hardware store would have had the metric bolts that fit the oil-filter cover on my '89 Honda NX 650? And even had them in Allen head !! yeah, OK wallymart would probably ...

according to these links Sears has bought 56 Kmart stores and 7 walmart stores.
They will be moving from the high cost overhead malls and back to the single store format!

From what I understand Kmart has made a huge turnaround after coming out bankruptcy. They sold off tons of their underproducting stores and amassed a huge warchest of cash. Also, their stock was selling at around $22 when coming out of bankruptcy less than a year ago. It hit 109 today. Gawd I wish I'da got some of that back then!
I also agree about the good/bad stores. The ones down in Florida I went to were best served by burning to the ground. Up here, however, the local store is my favorite place to shop. Clean, well lit, nice folks, plenty of registers always open, and not godawful crowded like that other place.

Appears to be a great match............
My experiances with Kmart are few. Recent experiances with Sears are no non-existant.
When I did shop Sears, rarely would I find my needs in stock.
Salesman are more often in a group in another department, screwing off.
Without embelishment......the last several times I was in Sears, they did not carry an item, or was not in stock.
I dont need that, somone else will sell me what I need.

I really hope the craftsman name doesnt vanish!!!

I love the lifetime warranty. I mean you can't beat it. I have taken back so many tools and all they do is exchange it. I love sears.

I really dislike Kmart though!

I could'nt care less. K-Mart left our town years ago, put alot of people out of work, and left a bunch of debts.

What ever happened to S-K Wayne tools ?
I bought a bunch of S-K tools back in the 60's and 70's and haven't broke one yet and I use them pretty often.

S-K Wayne is still around, you just have to look. I have found them at the local napa, (independantly owned), and the army surplus store about 2 hours from here. Link is here.
