Idle Rattle
I have a 99 PSD extend cab 4x4. At idle it sounds like there's ball bearings rolling around in the motor. (700 rpm). It goes away at the slightest amount of throttle. Took it to the shop today and they say they have never heard anything like it. They want it back tomorrow to do fuel pressure tests.
Any ideas or experiences on this noise so I can give them some suggestions?

Could be the torque convertor. There were two models which were used, one sounds like a coffee can full of drywall screws in a paint shaker. I have one of those, but the sound is there until the torque convertor locks up.

I've had the noise for quite a while too. According to the service dept. the converter was bad and will eventually do damage to the transmission due to contaminated fluid transferring between the two. Although $1400 is alot, it's better than a tranny.
