I am about to order a loaded to the gills F350 DRW crewcab lariat 4X4 with the 6.0 diesel and torqshift auto. I drive mostly empty. Once a year I drive down to Florida with a bike trailer weighing roughly 4000#'s and I tow my 5th wheel camper that weighs in loaded at approx. 11,000#'s. The camper is only towed 2 or 3 times a year which is roughly 1,000 miles. Should I order the truck with 3.73's or 4.10's. Also, I am tossed up between two tone Wedgewood blue with arizona beige or oxford white with arizona beige. I'm not one to wash my truck everyday so which one will be harder to keep clean and show scratches?
Not that much weight. Why not just save the 4k and order a SRW. I tow 10k w/ my short bed and it does fine with 3.73's. Put it on cruise at 75 and just relax.
The Oxford White shows less scratches. I take mine off road hunting on a ranch with lots of mesquite trees and prickly pear cactus. It doesn't show the mesquite pinstriping unless you look hard.
Because of the GVW of the 2005 SRW, I will need commercial plates whether I get the DRW or the SRW so I am opting for the DRW just because I like the way it looksand the stability of 5th wheel towing. I also have another vehicle so I won't have to use this vehicle everyday. I just came back from driving a dually with 4.10's and I think I will go with the 3.73's. The 3.73's tach out at 2,000RPM's at 70MPH and the 4.10's tach out at 2,250RPM's at 70 MPH. Thank you for the input.
My last 03 6.0 was A/B and it looks really 'rich'.. Got alot of compliments.. Especially when shined up.. When I decided to let'r go for the 05, I almost took a O/W but it came with the lower accent missing or I probably would have taken it.. White FOR SURE is easier to repair/match, (we do alot of body work here) but are whole fleet is WHITE!!! Comes in handy for paint/body supplies though
The A/B shows the dust/dirt less IMO.. I know this, cause I haven't had a chance to wash my new one since I got it, and it's 'filthy' dirty and still looks good!! Glad I waited for the A/B, and optioned to my taste.. If your going to do agressive off roading, or anticipate scratchs/dents that you'll take out on occasion, Go white...
I have an '01 PSD 7.3 with the 3:73, SRW long bed and tow a 12,800# 5th wheel anywhere I want. Now I have an '05 also, with the 6.0, SRW, 3:73, torkshift, FWD. We are giving it its "maiden tow voyage" Friday. The '01 is apulling fool, and from the feel I believe this new one will be just as good or better, if that's possible. We got our new one in all Dark Green Satin Met. It really is a nice looking vehicle.
