coolant flush question

I've read a lot of threads about flushing the cooling system, but I still have a question. After I flush the system with water and am ready to button everything back up, how do you get the right mixture of coolant to water? If I remove the top radiator hose and put a hose in the degas bottle and run the engine with the heater on, then straight water will be running through the block. When I'm done flushing, won't all of that water that is still in the block throw off the ratio of coolant to water? Should I just add straight coolant to the radiator to fill the system?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Maybe a little but not much. I usually turn the engine off and leave the pepcock open until water quits coming out. Then I fill it with the mix and then test it and see what it is good to. Then I finish filling it with coolant and fill the overflow with coolant.

After you drain the system (after the final flush) when all you have in there is nice clean H2O, add straight antifreeze up to 1/2 the total volume of your cooling system - then at a 50/50 mix. With my truck, 2 gallons of antifreeze mixes with the 2 gallons of water that is left in there for a perfect 50/50 mix and I have to add very little mixed coolant. Of course, when my neighbor came over and was watching me pour straight antifreeze into my system he thought I was nuts!
