Question How fast does fuel go bad ?

My truck has been sitting outside at the dealers for 20 days now (but who's counting) waiting for a new engine. It will probably be there for another week. I'm starting to worry about my fuel. I don't want to have a bunch of water or other cr*p in it when I finally get my truck back. The temperatures around here lately have been mid to high 30's overnight, daytime temps in the low to mid 50's and the odd day in the mid 60's. It's been raining most of the time. My auxillary tank was full when I took in the truck and the main was about half full.

At this late point in time what should I have the dealer do to ensure I don't have a contamination problem after I pick up the truck. I'm thinking to have them drain and refill the tanks and drain and replace water filters and fuel filters. With fresh fuel I'm not worried about a stabilizer at this point.

How quickly does fuel go bad? Is there any other precaution I should take?

Add some fuel additive with a biocide to the tanks if it looks like it is going to be a lot longer.

Thanks again SBV. Is it really that simple? No other precautions?

Keep both tanks full. That way no condensation can form inside the tank with temp variations.

I routinely leave fuel in my truck with Stanadyne for over 30 days at a time never any problem...the truck is in the garage if not pulling the trailer. The longest was 49 days.
