Your best bet is to get a Haynes or Chilton manual. They should show you all the screws and whatnot needed to remove to change the bulbs. I haven't done mine and I kinda dread it. when the time comes.

Changed out the instrument lights on my '97 F150 4.6 - its somewhat of a pain, but not too bad - Ford house wanted 2 hours of labor to do it - took me a little over 2 hours including a trip for the bulbs. I would also suggest a Haynes manual - it has the whole ritual written up - it would be pretty much impossible without a manual.
No special tools are involved.
And don't worry about removing the instrument cluster - its one piece and all wires only plug on one way - take your time and you shouldn't have any problems.
