Just tried a product to balance my tires with out the damaging wheel weights, it's called Equal. It goes inside the tire and so far works great. I had the special tool to install it without breaking down the tire. If any one is interested here is a link to the site.
WAS going to use it, but didnt feel like waiting if i ordered it, and didnt really know how well it worked. Had the sticky weights put on my rims ... we'll see how long till they fall off, and hten i'll probably try that stuff .... keep us updated on how well it seems to work ... especially over time.
I'm not real crazy about the lead weights hammered to my wheels, but I'm not that crazy about the wheels either. (F350 DRW).
I did use something similar to those bags, but the ones in mine were in a blue package and the stuff inside was blue. Scared the tire guy when he broke one down - blue powder went everywhere. He said, "No wonder this here tire ain't balancing good - it got (blankety-blank) baby powder in there!"
I told him to take it out. Never found out why it busted, though. The other five were still good. Didn't go back with them when I got new rubber the next time.
I have been getting my tires "road force balanced" for years! For example, after the machine said to break the tire down and move the wheel about 9 inches and 6 inches for the 2 that I watched my 325 65 18 Nittos only took .75 on 1 wheel and 1.00 on the other front!!! Those are big tires and the truck is very smooth!!! Do it right the first time and forget about it. The hard part is not every tire store has these and the ones that don't will tell you it is not necessary! I call a big BS on that one--been there done that.
Yeah, for larger off road tires there really is no other way to get them balanced right. Most tire centers that do over the road truck tires will recomend it over wheel weights. I had my old Swamper TSL's balanced that way, it cost me $35 for all four and they actually smoothed out nicely at highway speeds. The place I took it to refused to use wheel weights with those tires, it was Equal or nothin'.

Check out the Offroad and 4x4 forum. The Equal stuff doesn't do it for most over there including myself. Most use the "BB" method to balance the really big tires. If your rig is used only on road in a dry climate it might work for you, but if you wheel, air down, and are in damp environments good luck.
