1. still havin probs with engine, its an 83 302 with a 2v carb, when warm it stumbles and i cannot step on it full blast or it will cut out, i have to slowly step on gas till it is goin fast enough, than i can step on it. When sittin in idle it smells very heavily of gas
2. had no heat, replaced ruptured heater core, still no heat, T-stat ya think?
I have to agree with Kem. I had the same issue with an old International Scout I used to have. I final rebuilt the carb and it got better but wasn't completely fixed until I took it in and had a mechanic adjust the air fuel mixture.
Sounds like a float drop problem in the carb. If the float adjustment is off, the float drops either too far, too fast, or both causing a flooding problem especially when you stomp on it.
1 - Float prob in the carb. OR it simply needs a tune-up. Check your timing, timing off will cause the same symptoms except for the gas odor. Maybe more than one problem...
On the stumbling problem, check the accelerator pump. With the engine off, look down the inside of the carb. Open the throttle blades and you should see gas being squirted into the carb. If it doesn't, then your carb needs replaced or rebuilt. It is possible that it is pumping too much, but usually the diaphragm doesn't work and quits all together. This sounds like your problem to me. As for the heater, no clue with the number of things that could be wrong.
he's right - I was trying to find that term (accelerator pump) but my foggy 40 year old brain couldn't pull it out, and it has been some time since I worked on a carbureted vehicle.
So yes, check it out - you can do what jeep said and look down into the carb to see if it squirts the gas in. Don't do this if the engine is too hot - there is a slight chance of a fireball coming up and hitting you in the face.
