ok, here is the deal, i have a 5 speed in my 4x4 extended cab ranger, and 5th gear is out of it, i have considered putting an automatic in it and was curious of what that would take, can anyone give me an idea of what i need to do to make it work?
thanks in advance
You will find out it is cheaper to fix or replace your M/T. Auto matics take different:
rear engine plate
flywheel changes to a flex plate
need a torque converter
need a transmission
need a dip stick fill tube
transmission cooling lines and radiator
shift cable
steering column unless you use a floor shifter
electrical wiring and engine control module
neutral safety switch
autos normally have different rear axle ratios
autos normally have a different drive shaft length for S/C 4x2
clutch/brake pedal changes to a brake pedal
autos normally have a different starter
there may be more unique parts depending on the model year
my 5 spd died and the shops wanted big buck to fix it -- i looked for some other way and found a wrecked bronco with a 4 speed [same engine as mine] and transplanted everything but the flywheel and the driveshaft so far it has worked fine for over two years for me .only problem i see is that the rear driveshaft is almost too short but its working as long as i dont do any wheelies. good luck....
