S.O.S., different guy. E4OD problems.

I bought a '93 7.5L F350 with an E4OD tranny back in '01. It now has 109k miles on it.

It was bought as a hauler to pull our 26' travel trailer on camping trips and to carry the dirt bikes to the dez. I live in SoCal, so anywhere we go involves climbing some decent grades while hauling a heavy load.

The tranny recently died. I understand that E4OD's are prone to failure anywhere past 70k miles or so.

I have no experience with tranny's. Should I rebuild the one I have, buy a Ford remanufactured unit, or buy a rebuilt unit from an aftermarket company like Jasper's? Three choices, and I have no idea which to pick. Maybe there's better choices out there?

I did a full service on the truck when I bought it, and I change the tranny fluid and filter every two years (did it 07/01, and again 07/03). The stock set up has about an 8"X10" tranny cooler sitting in front of the radiator and the fluid is still red, not frothy or stinky. I also installed a Banks TransCommand immidiately after buying the truck.

The truck will not go faster than a couple mph right after a cold start, then just flat refuses to move after a couple of minutes and the engine won't even stay running in any gear except neutral.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the E4OD is a very good tranny after it has been properly remanufactured with H/D components and all the up grades. if i had the bucks i would go with Jasper. you might want to check out Phoenix Remanufactured Transmissions
