I have just bought a 2001 edge stepside, and i would like to put a toolbox in the bed. The problem is, I cant find anything Ilke. I'm loking for a single lid diamond tread over the rails or a chest type that wll fit it, preferably in black. Any help is appreciated
I had a '99 stepside. I went to Lowe's and bought their Contico toolbox. I believe they have one that is 48", and one just under that. It is the smaller one that I bought. I drilled a hole in each side, ran stainless eye-bolts through the holes, and sandwiched the box with stainless nuts and washers. I put on a little silicone sealant to prevent leaks. Then I bought some airline cable insulated with black pvc, and bought 4 galavnized cable clamps. I cut the cable long enough to run around the tie-hooks on the bed, and formed two loops that were just big enough to fit over the eye-bolt. Then I bought two water resistant outdoor locks. What I did was run the cables around the tie-hooks, slip the loops over the eye-bolt and then lock them in place with the outdoor locks. You need to make sure you don't leave too much slack or you can still get the cables loose from around the tie-hooks. Or, if there is enough room, before you put the cable clamp on one end of the cable, you might be able to slip it through the middle of the tie-hook, then put on the cable clamp and form then loop. That way you can't pull the cable loose. Matter of fact, I have this setup in my 2K ranger that doesn't have stepsides. Still used the same box, just extended the cables a bit.

I considered a box for my flairside and found several over the top models at truck places in my area (Dallas). My problem was I wanted a box that fitted the bed width exactly and was lower than the bed top. After giving up, I spotted a F150 with exactly the type box I wanted. I asked the driver where he got it and he said that he had it made to his specs at a local metal fabricator. It looked great but When he told me it cost $500, I decided I didn't want one that much.
