1993 Explorer stearing box
Ok I'm thinking of buying this 93 explorer eddie verison. The only problem is that the stearing box is bad from what a garage said. When you turn the wheel just a little bit the car turns very sharp so is this the stearing box and if so how easy is it to replace it or is there any way to adjust this.. I'm pretty good with cars have done engine swaps and rebuilt my tranny and put a rack and pinion in it. But ive never have done a stearing box The garage wanted $600 to do this I was like hell no ill do it myself becuase the explorer is going for $600 the guy does not know anything about cars and he is moving so he needs to sell it quick..Also it needs a new shift cable I dont know if it came loose or what but thats an easy fix..

It should not be that hard to replace the steering box. Just a few bolts and removing a few hoses. The main thing is to make sure you get all the air out of the system. I'll check on the exact procedures tomorow and get back to you.

I replaced the steering box in my '91 a couple of years ago. I suspect the 91 and 94 are pretty much the same. I bought a rebuilt box from Autozone for about $125, which was about the same price some junk yards wanted for a junker. I suggest you check their pricing, although it will probably have to be paid for up front and ordered.
