Can any one give me some advice on how to remove the shift lever from the case in an E40d.. i have the pan off, the nut off the end of the shifter, inside.
I also have the position sensor removed. But I want to take the shift lever off the case for some welding repair, so I don't fry the seal welding it in place.
How do I get the lever out? There seems to be a big smooth, round, sleeve holding it in from the inside, that does not appear to unbolt from the lever.
If you look on the case near where the pan gasket goes you'll see a roll pin holding the manual lever shaft in. You need to remove that pin. Good luck
Ford has a special puller for removing it but some people have got lucky just screwing a 1/16" drill bit into it and pulling it out with that.
